Socratic method

Σωκράτης (Sōkratēs, “the way of Socrates”)
Teaching by asking questions

The Socratic method teaches by asking questions until the person discovers the answer themself.

The story

Socrates walked the Athens marketplace asking people simple questions until they found the holes in what they believed. He wrote nothing down. His student Plato recorded the conversations.

The Texas version

Law schools at UT and Baylor still teach this way: the professor calls on you and keeps asking 'why?'

Use it at work

Coaching a teammate? Ask 'What did the customer care about most?' instead of telling them.

Practice it in Skepsis
