analysis

ἀνάλυσις (analysis, “a loosening up”)
Breaking something into parts to understand it

Analysis means loosening up: untying something into its parts. Same lysis as in paralysis.

The story

Ana (up, back) + lysis (loosening). To analyze is to loosen a knot back into its strands. The same lysis gives us 'paralysis' (loosened on one side) and 'catalyst'.

The Texas version

Breaking down game film on Sunday after a Friday loss. Analysis.

Use it at work

Analysis isn't a big dashboard. It's untying one question at a time: why did sign-ups drop?

Practice it in Skepsis
