technology

τέχνη (technē, “craft, art, skill”)
Using skill and tools to make things

Technology comes from technē: craft or skill. To Greeks, art and engineering were the same idea.

The story

Technē meant craft: the skill of a carpenter, doctor or sculptor. Technology is 'the study of craft'. Greeks didn't split art from engineering. Both were technē.

The Texas version

A saddle maker in Fort Worth practices technē. So does an engineer at Dell in Round Rock.

Use it at work

Software is the tool. The technē is the craft of getting the customer a result.

Practice it in Skepsis
