program

πρόγραμμα (programma, “a written notice in advance”)
A planned series of steps

Program means 'written before': pro + gramma. A schedule posted in advance, then instructions for a computer.

The story

Pro (before) + gramma (something written). A programma was a public notice posted ahead of time, like a schedule of events. Software programs are still 'instructions written in advance'.

The Texas version

The printed program at a Texas high school graduation: what's coming, written before.

Use it at work

Every automation we build is a programma: decide the steps ahead so nobody has to remember them.

Practice it in Skepsis
