Nike

Νίκη (Nikē, “victory”)
The Greek goddess of victory

Nike was the Greek goddess of victory. The shoe brand borrowed her name.

The story

Nike was the winged goddess of victory. Statues showed her landing to crown winners. The sneaker brand took her name in 1971 (the company became Nike, Inc. in 1978); the swoosh is often read as her wing in motion.

The Texas version

Every Texas high school stadium is full of Nike: the goddess of winning on Friday night.

Use it at work

When the team closes a big customer, that's a Nike moment. Name the win.

Practice it in Skepsis
